Jackets

Outdoor jackets fall into four broad categories. Waterproof jackets, a shell for keeping out the wind and rain. These waterproof jackets will either have a membrane such as Gore-Tex, Event, Hydroban, HydroDry or SympaTex to name but a few or use a unique system such as that designed and used by Paramo. Spike also has a range of quilted jackets that provide insulation. The warmth comes from a natural source such as Goose or Duck down or a man made synthetic filling such as Primaloft. Softshell jackets provide a degree of wind resistance and will bead water but have the advantage of being less bulky and more breathable, and finally Wind proof jackets and smocks. These are an essential piece of kit for the hill walker, runner or biker. They are so light it makes no sense leaving one at home. They offer protection against wind and some rain, keep you warm and are often no bigger than an apple. Their breathability is the key, keeping you comfortable especially during high activity sports.
