Men's trousers or trousers for women will form a considerable of your outdoor kit. It is likely that you will have more than one pair of trousers to suit the weather, the season and the activity that your are doing. If you are winter walking in Snowdonia then you will need walking trousers that will keep off the wind and rain and that will provide some warmth and insulation. They may be fleece lined or even have a Primaloft filling like the Paramo Torres trousers. Primaloft will provide warmth even when when wet and is a great alternative to down insulation. If you are planning to go climbing in the Lake District or scrambling in Snowdonia then you will need trousers that are tough, stretchy and have articulation in the knees. They will probably have a reinforced seat. These are generally called "soft shell" and offer maximum protection without being restrictive in any way (like you can often get from over-trousers and a waterproof jacket...hard shell). The Mountain Equipment Civetta Pant is made from Stretchlite fabric with a DWR finish. Light and yet technical they are an ideal "all mountain" pant. Travel trousers are also available from Spike. They range from 3/4 length bouldering shorts to zip off trekking pants and everything in between. The polyamide fabrics used are ideal for outdoor activities. They have UPF 50+ sun protection, anti mosquito, they can include Supplex stretch, are quick drying, breathable, non crease, non iron, easy to wash and if you get caught in the rain then they will dry super quickly. Frankly these are trekking trousers and travel trousers combined.
